The thorax is one of the most clinically underrated regions in manual therapy — a structural crossroads where the spine, sternum, ribs, and upper limb converge in a continuous myofascial web. This weekend intensive gives that web its proper attention.
Working through the models of Myers, Paoletti, Schultz, and others, you will explore how the thoracic spine and sternum organise movement and restriction through the entire upper extremity. We treat the sternum as what it functionally is: a hinge — and the costal junctions as the often-overlooked pivots that govern it.
Hands-on time covers rotational and spiral techniques for the upper extremity sleeve, the axillary fossa, intermuscular septa, and key muscles shaping scapular control — particularly coracobrachialis and subscapularis. Visceral fascial work brings the pleura and mediastinum into the picture, alongside joint capsule centration.
Throughout the weekend, direct and indirect myofascial applications are woven together with modified MET, all anchored in a clear global-to-local framework for assessment and measuring change.

Key muscles influencing scapular mechanics — including coracobrachialis and subscapularis — are addressed in depth, alongside visceral fascial considerations: pleural and mediastinal relationships, and joint capsule centration. Throughout both days, palpation of myofascial line structures is integrated with direct, indirect, and modified MET approaches.
A consistent global-to-local assessment framework is used to benchmark and track clinical change.

Steven Goldstein ,  has a B.A. in Education 1984, B. Health Science in Musculoskeletal Therapy 2007, is an American émigré to Australia residing in Melbourne, Australia since 1999. An innovative massage educator since 1992, instructing internationally his unique blend of direct myofascial, indirect osteopathic releasing methods and somatic bodywork approaches since 1995 known as Fascial Therapy, and director of the Fascial Therapy Institute Australia.
